Time Management

Suggested Video.
How To Multiply Your Time.

This TED video points to -
  • Logic vs emotion.
  • Time management vs efficiency.
  • The notion of ‘multipliers’ and 'automation' and ‘significance’ and saying ‘NO’.
  • The power of delegation.
  • Eliminate - Automate - Delegate - Do it or Procrastinate on purpose: put it off until ‘it’ can be eliminated, delegated or becomes urgent and needs to be done now.
Wellness.
  • Avoid belligerent people:  It is amazing how much time can be lost talking to people that will never allow for anyone else's point of view.
  • Embrace change especially that which comes from ageing:  Everything changes and so must you.  Make your plans around what you are capable of now,  not what was (the past) or where you hope to be (the future).
  • Use your years of experience wisely:  "You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over." Richard Branson.  It's OK to make mistakes but it is better to learn from them.  If your experience is telling you one thing don't 'hope-for-the-best'.  At the very least be cautious when overriding your 'gut'.
Graphic Time management Centre surrounded by associated words like setting goals, planning, focus etc.
  • Be happy:  Don't be too strict on yourself.  Author Marthe Troly-Curtin's quoted opinion is that, time we spend enjoying ourselves is never wasted.

What's Next?

  1. 'Plan your work, work your plan'.
  2. Foster good habits - "...not one swallow or a fine day that makes a spring."  Aristotle.
  3. Don't rely on memory.  Write things down.
  4. Focus on the important things.
  5. Practice saying no.
  6. Learn the difference between being busy and being productive.
  7. Learn to prioritise.  Remember 80% of results usually come from only 20% of what we do.
  8. Learn to delegate.
  9. Avoid 'multi-tasking' embrace 'Mono-tasking".
  10. Learn to differentiate between the useful and the distracting (you don't need to make yourself available 24/7).
  11. Aways keep your promises.
Inspiration:  It is said that Fidel Castro calculated that not shaving saved him 10 working days every year.
Finally: The whole notion of time comes from the emergence of man-made sections of our existence - moments in time.  It is our duty to make the most of those moments.

How Can I Help?

Suggested Video.
Beginner’s Guide to Time Management.
Coming from a Canadian university the video is student oriented but it is short and worth a watch just for the references to Personal Prime Time; understanding when you are operating at peak performance and the Eisenhower Matrix a tool that helps you work out if what you are doing is important or just a distraction.
One of the great basketball coaches, John Wooden, talked about drudgery being the result of joyless work.

The content of this website is based on my experience, education and the hundreds of coaching sessions I have delivered online.

I am also a representative of an FCA regulated company which means that my financial education activities fall under the rules of a very powerful consumer protection body.

The FCA is the UK's financial regulatory body with a wide range of powers designed to protect consumers from firms that do not meet the desired standards.  The FCA can; stop firms and individuals from conducting regulated activities.  Fine firms and individuals who break the FCA rules.  Make any action taken against firms and individuals public.  Bring criminal proceedings where warranted.  The full scope of their powers can be found in the Decision procedure and penalties manual (DEPP).
